About Graici

Graici is a purpose-driven technology startup bringing Agentic Engagement Technology to market. Agentic Engagement Technology is an AI-native, multichannel communication platform sold to healthcare providers, health insurance plans, educational institutions, and government to achieve greater engagement and outcomes with the people they serve. Our technology delivers our purpose of powering inclusive prosperity by empowering individual users across the Social Drivers of Health (SDoH) to access the resources they need while reducing friction and enhancing workflows for the employees who serve them.

Graici is reimagining how underserved individuals access public and private benefits with a mission to build a trustworthy, secure, and user-driven platform that simplifies access to critical services. We're transitioning away from LLM-heavy systems toward a robust, rules-based architecture that empowers users and keeps logic transparent. We’ve defined a clear architectural vision for this next phase, but we need the right leader to help our early-career engineering team bring that plan to life.

About the Role

This is a great opportunity for a pragmatic, hands-on Engineering Manager who thrives in early-stage, execution-heavy environments. You won’t be reinventing the wheel. You’ll be translating a well-defined architecture into real systems by mentoring the team, guiding implementation, and building just enough process to keep us moving forward with purpose.

This is not a role for a visionary looking to redefine the platform. This is an ideal position for an implementer. Someone who can take an existing vision, break it into parts, and work side-by-side with a junior team to ship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Decompose architecture into actionable work
Break down an existing platform plan (including rules engine, profile model, orchestration layers, and express-based services) into epics, stories, and milestones the team can realistically deliver.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers
Provide day-to-day technical leadership, unblock engineers, offer code reviews with context, and coach developers on everything from naming variables to designing maintainable components.
  • Drive delivery
Track implementation progress, coordinate across backend and frontend efforts, and ensure stories are completed with clarity and tested before deployment.
  • Operational leadership
Build lightweight processes for deployment, QA, and release without creating unnecessary overhead. This is a ship-it culture, not a spec-it culture.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally
Work with the Head of Product and external technical advisors to ensure alignment between product priorities and engineering execution.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience decomposing systems
You’ve taken high-level architectural plans and converted them into storyboards, sprints, or tickets that junior developers can execute with confidence.
  • Demonstrated success managing an engineering team of at least four engineers. Your experience includes mentoring junior engineers. You know how to teach, not just tell. You have the patience, empathy, and communication skills to grow developers with potential into accountable, empowered contributors who work well on their own and in collaboration with others.

  • Strong with Express.js and Node
You’re fluent in modern JavaScript tooling and capable of both setting patterns and working alongside the team to implement them.
  • Familiarity with rule-based systems
Whether it’s a decision engine, a stateful validation flow, or business logic encoded in YAML, you're comfortable thinking in terms of conditions, triggers, and outcomes.
  • Bias toward pragmatism
You value delivery over theory. You understand that this phase of the company needs momentum more than reinvention.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to document processing pipelines or structured form data
  • Experience with JSON Schema validation
  • Comfort working in early-stage environments without much scaffolding
  • Light LLM or NLP experience is great, but not the focus

What Success Looks Like

  • Within the first 30 days, the engineering roadmap is translated into clear, prioritized sprints
  • Junior engineers are unblocked, know what they’re working on, and are receiving regular support
  • The team starts delivering usable components against the architecture without deviation or wheel reinvention
  • Engineering debt is kept minimal through thoughtful scaffolding and peer review
  • Product begins shipping new benefit workflows backed by rules logic and structured profile data
